As we inch closer to the centennial anniversary of the waking nightmare that is COVID-19, we thought it might be helpful to highlight a few of the wineries near Portland.
Though not quite as welcoming as they’d be under normal conditions, as you’ll see, reservations are now required before you can initiate a wine tasting, and social distancing measures remain in place.
However, the following wineries are still very much worth your time and patronage. And with the school year fast approaching and wetter, chillier climes right around the corner, there’s no better time to visit some of our region’s most popular winemakers.
Adelsheim Vineyard

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of one of Oregon’s most lauded destinations in the Willamette Valley, Adelsheim Vineyard. An original member of the region’s burgeoning wine scene, Adelsheim boasts a wide array of uniquely tasty offerings, an unbeatable open-air cabana in which to consume them and a proud partnership with our very own Portland Trail Blazers.

Argyle Winery

If you’re fortunate enough to find yourself in Dundee, OR, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more serene setting than Argyle‘s Tasting House. Known for its sparkling wines, Argyle has witnessed its popularity soar since opening its doors in 1987.
Located amidst 400 acres of lush microclimates, Argyle is also proud of its commitment to education, advocacy and environmental sustainability.
Casa S

A personal favorite, Casa S is a fairly new addition to the Willamette wine scene. Founded by Bay Area transplants, this singular winery is home to an impressive backyard pool and spa, a state-of-the-art cinema, and a 19th-century Polish piano. (Hot tip: Kindly request that Josh, one of the owners, regale you with his piano skills; he’s absolutely superb.)

MonksGate Vineyard

Easily one of the Willamette’s most unique vineyards, MonksGate has been delighting wine aficionados since the George W. Bush Administration. Ron and Linda, who began working the land in the late ’90s, chose its name based on a nearby Trappist Abbey whose monks have long traversed its pristine, bucolic surroundings.

Stoller Family Estate

Stoller Family Estate is, without a doubt, one of the most popular wineries in the state of Oregon. Built upon land that was originally utilized as a turkey farm, Stoller is now home to the world’s first LEED Gold-certified winery, and its sleek, state-of-the-art tasting room is nearly as impressive as its menu.
If you’re feeling particularly Portland, you can even charge your electric car while you sample their exquisite offerings.

With more than 600 vineyards in the area, this list is by no means exhaustive. That said, no matter where you end up doing a little wine tasting, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a gorgeous, accessible and refreshing escape from the bustle of downtown.
