Highland

Join the mustachioed masses in Highland and watch a neighborhood transform. The Highland Bridge, connecting pedestrians to Lower Downtown, is a prime example of innovative architecture, but the hipsters who call Highland home still go for the traditional (and the turn-of-the-century Victorians that top the market here).

Denver’s oldest drinkery, My Brother’s Bar, is a landmark, and the Highlands Street Fair, full of live music and boutique eats (every June since 1982!) celebrates Highland’s close-knit community.

Living the high(land) life will cost you. The average rent here is about $2,100 for a one-bedroom apartment.

Washington Park

Kayakers and joggers, paced by their furry friends, explore serene Smith and Grasmere lakes in namesake Washington Park year-round.

This neighborhood is an epicenter of family fitness, with B-Cycle bikeshare stations and an uber-walkable historic town center, Old South Gaylord. There you’ll find shops in converted bungalows and brownstones, an entertainment enclave for events like the Farm to Bottle Fall Festival, celebrating local suds and spirits.

A one-bedroom apartment in Washington Park costs about $1,800 per month on average.

Cherry Creek

denver neighborhoods Cherry Creek

The struggle is real for the shopping savvy in Cherry Creek. From upscale housewares at Arhaus to bespoke fashion at Garbarini, this retail destination has it all, plus posh dining destinations like 801 Chophouse and a walkable fine arts district.

Beyond trend-setting and bag-toting, Cherry Creek offers safe streets, amenity-rich townhomes and condos and excellent schools, earning its moniker, “Georgetown of the West.”

Cherry Creek is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in the city. An average one-bedroom apartment here will cost about $2,700 a month.

Congress Park

Stretching out on the sunny lawns of Congress Park after taking down the brunch burrito and a breakfast beer at the aptly named Congress Park Tap Room might be the perfect antidote to a night out in this go-to party district.

The craftsman-style bungalows and Victorian estates with gabled roofs give this nightlife hub a homey appeal. To feel 100 percent local, hop the shuttle at Illegal Pete’s on Colfax Avenue to a show at nearby Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the legendary natural concert venue known to etch any band’s success in stone.

LoDo

denver neighborhoods LoDo

As Denver’s oldest neighborhood, Lower Downtown (LoDo) is home to both chic high-rises and architecture straight out of a spaghetti western.

Gear up for a night out with a River North White Ale at Euclid Hall Bar & Kitchen on historic Larimer Square. The bar pays tribute to both the father of geometry and local legend Soapy Smith. With historic Union Station, the Pepsi Center and Coors Field in its coordinates, LoDo is the place for young professionals with gypsy souls.

LoDo is another pricey option. You’ll pay upwards of $3,000 a month for an average one-bedroom apartment.

Capitol Hill

denver neighborhoods Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is punctuated with impressive Victorian architecture like the gold-capped state capitol and Molly Brown house, but there’s a bohemian vibe emanating from the vibrant Art In Action Community Mural on Logan Street and eateries like Jelly Cafe.

Try the Red Flannel Hash, complete with bacon, beets and potatoes cooked in a sweet cream marinade, and gear up for a bike ride around Cheesman Park. Or a nap. That works, too.

Just about $2,000 a month will get you an average one-bedroom apartment in this popular neighborhood.

Stapleton

denver neighborhoods Stapleton

What was once a defunct municipal airport in northeast Denver is now an affordable neighborhood with an eco-friendly focus.

Anchored by movie theaters, retail and dining opportunities at The Shops at Northfield Stapleton, this neighborhood calls to families who want suburban amenities, safe neighborhoods and excellent schools, with just a 20-minute commute to downtown Denver.

Living a little further from downtown means cheaper rent. An average one-bedroom apartment in Stapleton runs about $1,700 a month.

Boulder

denver neighborhoods Boulder

Less than 30 miles from downtown Denver, Boulder is the place to be if you’ve got time and a little green to burn (no pun intended).

Before you hit the slopes at one of eight Rocky Mountain ski resorts within a two-hour drive, browse the survival gear and in-store Everest slayer museum at Neptune Mountaineering. From glamping accessories to essential hiking boots, the shop makes sure residents with free time spend it exploring.

Boulder is one of the more desirable Denver suburbs, and the price shows. An average one-bedroom apartment here is about $2,750 a month.
